Administrator frequently asked questions
What is the Administrator certification?+
The Salesforce Certified Administrator (also branded Platform Administrator) is the entry point to the Salesforce admin certification path, distinct from developer and architect credentials.
It targets people who administer Salesforce for their company, so success rewards practical, declarative configuration knowledge rather than coding.
What topics are on the Administrator exam?+
The Administrator exam follows the refreshed blueprint effective December 15, 2025, organised into eight weighted sections. Salesforce publishes each weight (15%, 15%, 15%, 17%, 10%, 10%, 10%, 8%); the percentages below are Salesforce’s own figures, so bias your study toward the heaviest section — Data and Analytics Management — followed by Configuration and Setup, Object Manager, and Automation. This refresh renamed the old Workflow/Process Automation section to “Automation” and added a new “Agentforce AI” section.
Configuration and Setup (15%)
Covers company settings, managing users, profiles, permission sets and permission set groups, roles and the role hierarchy, the security model (organization-wide defaults, sharing rules, field-level security), login policies, and the setup audit trail.
Object Manager and Lightning App Builder (15%)
Covers standard and custom objects and fields, field dependencies, record types and page layouts, object relationships (lookup, master-detail, junction), and building Lightning pages with the Lightning App Builder and Dynamic Forms.
Automation (15%)
Covers Salesforce Flow (screen, record-triggered, scheduled, and autolaunched flows and their elements), approval processes, choosing the right automation tool with Flow as the go-forward option (Process Builder and Workflow Rules are retired/end-of-support), and automated actions such as email alerts and field updates.
Data and Analytics Management (17%)
The largest section. Covers data import (Data Import Wizard vs Data Loader) and export, data quality (duplicate and matching rules, validation), mass operations and the Recycle Bin, reports (report types, filters, bucketing, summary formulas), and dashboards.
Sales and Marketing Applications (10%)
Covers the sales process (leads, opportunities, stages, path), lead conversion and assignment, web-to-lead, products and price books, campaigns, and sales productivity features including forecasting.
Service and Support Applications (10%)
Covers case management (case lifecycle, assignment and escalation rules, auto-response), web-to-case and Email-to-Case, queues and case teams, Knowledge, entitlements and SLAs, and Omni-Channel.
Productivity and Collaboration (10%)
Covers activity management (tasks and events), the Salesforce mobile app, email templates and email integration, Chatter and collaboration, and Salesforce Files.
Agentforce AI (8%)
A new section on the refreshed blueprint. Covers what an administrator configures declaratively for Agentforce and Einstein AI features — agent setup with topics and actions, the Einstein Trust Layer and data grounding/masking, Prompt Builder, and the permissions that govern who can use AI features.
Is the Administrator hard?+
The Administrator exam is challenging because it spans the whole platform declaratively and rewards knowing which feature solves a given business requirement, especially choosing among sharing mechanisms and automation tools.
The heavy weighting on configuration and object management rewards hands-on experience in a real or Trailhead Playground org. The difficulty is breadth of features and correct tool selection.
How many questions are on the Administrator exam and how long is it?+
The Administrator exam has 60 scored multiple-choice questions (plus 5 unscored), a 105-minute time limit, and a passing score of 65%.
Our full-length practice mock uses a 60-question, 105-minute session so you can rehearse pacing across all eight sections before test day.
What score do you need to pass the Administrator?+
The Salesforce Certified Administrator exam requires a score of 65% to pass, and there is no penalty for guessing, so answer every question. Our practice mock uses that same 65% threshold as a study checkpoint; aim comfortably beyond it before test day.
How much does the Administrator exam cost?+
The Administrator exam fee is USD $200 plus tax, with a USD $100 retake fee, set by Salesforce — check the Salesforce certification site for current pricing. Everything on this hub is free.
Who should take the Administrator?+
The Administrator credential is aimed at Salesforce administrators — people who manage users, configure objects and automation, and support users for their organization.
Salesforce recommends six months or more of hands-on experience administering Salesforce, though there is no formal prerequisite.
What jobs and salaries can the Administrator lead to?+
The Administrator credential maps to roles such as Salesforce administrator, business analyst, and Salesforce consultant, and is the foundation for advanced admin and consultant certifications.
How much any certification affects pay depends heavily on geography, seniority, and experience, so treat any single salary figure with caution. The Administrator credential is best viewed as proof that you can configure and manage Salesforce for a business.
How long does it take to study for the Administrator?+
Most candidates need four to eight weeks, spent configuring a Trailhead Playground or Developer Edition org — building objects, security, reports, and flows.
Review every explanation, including for questions you answered correctly, because Administrator distractors are built from plausible but incorrect configuration choices. Use the per-section results here to find your weakest area, then finish with full-length timed mocks.
How should you prepare for the Administrator?+
Study the eight sections above, giving the heaviest weight to Data and Analytics Management, Configuration, Object Manager, and Automation, then drill scenario questions section by section while practicing in a Salesforce org. Every MockAPI question reveals a full explanation and tells you why each wrong answer is wrong.
When you can configure security, objects, reports, and flows comfortably, move to full-length timed mocks. Use the glossary to keep concepts like profiles, permission sets, record types, and Flow straight, and aim to score consistently above the 65% checkpoint before you book.
Can you take the Administrator exam online?+
Yes. Salesforce certification exams are delivered through Kryterion, with both online-proctored (remote) and in-person test-center options. For the online option you need a private, quiet room, a webcam and microphone, a stable connection, and government-issued photo ID, with a proctor monitoring you.
If you do not pass, you can retake the exam for a reduced fee after a short waiting period — check the current retake policy before rebooking.
What certification should you take after the Administrator?+
After the Administrator credential, related Salesforce certifications include Advanced Administrator, Platform App Builder, and the Sales Cloud and Service Cloud consultant credentials.
For many, the real next step is administering Salesforce for a growing organization. Pairing the credential with hands-on admin experience is what turns it into a career.
