COF-C03 frequently asked questions

What is the COF-C03 certification?+

SnowPro Core (COF-C03) is the foundational Snowflake certification and a prerequisite mindset for the SnowPro Advanced certifications. COF-C03 is the current exam version, replacing the retired COF-C02.

It targets anyone working with Snowflake — data engineers, analysts, and administrators — so success rewards broad, accurate knowledge of platform features and behavior.

What topics are on the COF-C03 exam?+

The SnowPro Core exam is organised into five weighted domains. Snowflake publishes each weight (31%, 20%, 18%, 21%, 10%); the percentages below are Snowflake’s own figures, so bias your study toward the heaviest domains — Snowflake AI Data Cloud Features and Architecture, and Performance Optimization.

Snowflake AI Data Cloud Features and Architecture (31%)

The largest domain. Covers the three-layer architecture (Cloud Services, Compute/virtual warehouses, Database Storage), Snowflake editions, interfaces and tools (Snowsight, Snowflake CLI), the object hierarchy, configuring virtual warehouses, storage concepts (micro-partitions), and AI/ML features (Cortex, Snowpark, Streamlit).

Account Management and Data Governance (20%)

Covers the Snowflake security model and role-based access control, authentication, data governance features (object tagging, masking policies, row access policies, Account Usage), and monitoring and cost management with resource monitors and budgets.

Data Loading, Unloading, and Connectivity (18%)

Covers data loading and unloading with COPY INTO and stages, automated ingestion with Snowpipe and streams and tasks, and the connectors and drivers (Kafka, Spark, JDBC, ODBC, Python) used to connect to Snowflake.

Performance Optimization, Querying, and Transformation (21%)

Covers evaluating query performance with the Query Profile, optimizing with clustering keys, the search optimization service, and materialized views, the three caches (result, metadata, warehouse), and transformation techniques including semi-structured data, views, UDFs, and dynamic tables.

Data Collaboration (10%)

Covers secure data sharing without copying data, providers and consumers, reader accounts, shares and listings, the Snowflake Marketplace and Native App Framework, and the data-protection features that safeguard shared data — Time Travel, Fail-safe, zero-copy cloning, and replication/failover.

Is the COF-C03 hard?+

SnowPro Core is challenging because it rewards precise knowledge of Snowflake-specific behavior — micro-partitions, caching layers, warehouse scaling, and sharing — rather than generic SQL or data-warehousing theory.

The heavy weighting on architecture and performance rewards hands-on experience querying and tuning in a Snowflake account. The difficulty is platform-specific precision.

How many questions are on the COF-C03 exam and how long is it?+

SnowPro Core (COF-C03) is a proctored exam of 100 multiple-choice and multiple-select questions with a 115-minute time limit, covering the Snowflake AI Data Cloud.

Our full-length practice mock uses a 60-question, 115-minute session so you can rehearse pacing across all five domains before test day.

What score do you need to pass the COF-C03?+

Snowflake sets a scaled passing score for SnowPro Core and does not publish it as a simple percentage in the current study guide. Our practice mock uses a 75% threshold as a study checkpoint; aim comfortably beyond it before test day.

How much does the COF-C03 exam cost?+

The SnowPro Core exam fee is USD $175 per attempt, set by Snowflake — check the Snowflake certification site for current pricing in your region. Everything on this hub is free.

Who should take the COF-C03?+

SnowPro Core is aimed at anyone working with Snowflake — data engineers, analysts, administrators, architects, and sales engineers.

Snowflake recommends hands-on experience with the platform, though there is no formal prerequisite.

What jobs and salaries can the COF-C03 lead to?+

SnowPro Core maps to roles such as data engineer, analytics engineer, data analyst, and Snowflake administrator, and is the gateway to the SnowPro Advanced certifications.

How much any certification affects pay depends heavily on geography, seniority, and experience, so treat any single salary figure with caution. SnowPro Core is best viewed as proof of solid Snowflake platform knowledge.

How long does it take to study for the COF-C03?+

Most candidates need four to six weeks, spent working in a Snowflake trial account — loading data, running queries, and exploring warehouses, sharing, and governance.

Review every explanation, including for questions you answered correctly, because SnowPro Core distractors are built from plausible but incorrect Snowflake behavior. Use the per-domain results here to find your weakest area, then finish with full-length timed mocks.

How should you prepare for the COF-C03?+

Study the five domains above, giving the heaviest weight to architecture and performance, then drill scenario questions domain by domain while practicing in a Snowflake account. Every MockAPI question reveals a full explanation and tells you why each wrong answer is wrong.

When you can explain architecture, warehouses, loading, and sharing comfortably, move to full-length timed mocks. Use the glossary to keep concepts like micro-partitions, Time Travel, zero-copy cloning, and secure data sharing straight, and aim to score consistently above the checkpoint before you book.

Can you take the COF-C03 exam online?+

Yes. Snowflake certification exams are delivered online with remote proctoring, and in-person test centers are also available. For the online option you need a private, quiet room, a webcam and microphone, a stable connection, and government-issued photo ID, with a proctor monitoring you.

If you do not pass, Snowflake enforces a waiting period before you can retake the exam — check the current retake policy before rebooking.

What certification should you take after the COF-C03?+

After SnowPro Core, the SnowPro Advanced certifications (such as Data Engineer, Data Scientist, Architect, and Administrator) build on this foundation.

For many, the real next step is delivering production workloads on Snowflake. Pairing SnowPro Core with hands-on project experience is what turns the certificate into a career.
