CompTIA Cloud+ (CV0-004) (CV0-004) practice exam & study guide

The CompTIA Cloud+ (CV0-004) is CompTIA’s intermediate, vendor-neutral cloud certification. It validates the ability to design cloud architecture, deploy and migrate workloads, secure cloud environments, operate and optimize resources, troubleshoot issues, and apply DevOps fundamentals across major cloud providers.

Cloud+ is a hands-on operations exam that treats the cloud as vendor-neutral, so it is useful across AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud. Questions test how you design, deploy, secure, and operate cloud workloads, including performance-based questions.

This free hub gives you everything you need to prepare: a syllabus breakdown by exam domain, realistic scenario-style practice questions with teacher-style explanations, a glossary of the cloud concepts the exam relies on, and full-length timed mock exams that mirror the real testing experience.

CV0-004 frequently asked questions

What is the CV0-004 certification?+

CompTIA positions Cloud+ as validating the skills needed to deploy and automate secure cloud environments that meet performance and availability requirements, independent of any single provider.

It emphasizes operations and design across the cloud lifecycle — architecture, deployment and migration, security, operations, troubleshooting, and DevOps — rather than the specifics of one platform.

What topics are on the CV0-004 exam?+

The CV0-004 exam is organised into six weighted domains. The percentages below are CompTIA’s published weightings. Cloud architecture is the largest area, with deployment and security close behind.

Cloud Architecture (23%)

The heaviest domain. It covers cloud models and service types, designing for capacity, high availability, scalability, and cost, cloud networking design (VPCs, load balancing, DNS, CDN, hybrid connectivity), and compute, storage, container, and serverless architecture.

Deployment (19%)

Covers provisioning compute, storage, and network resources, templates and infrastructure as code, migrating workloads with rehost, replatform, and refactor strategies, data migration, and validating deployments.

Security (19%)

Covers identity and access management, network and data security including encryption, segmentation, and key management, and compliance, governance, hardening, and securing containers and cloud workloads.

Operations (17%)

Covers monitoring, logging, and alerting, maintaining and optimizing resources for capacity, cost, and performance, backup, restore, and disaster recovery, and automating operational tasks.

Troubleshooting (12%)

Covers troubleshooting deployment, connectivity, performance, and security issues using a structured methodology, and analyzing logs and metrics to diagnose and resolve cloud problems.

DevOps Fundamentals (10%)

The smallest domain. It covers CI/CD pipelines and automation, version control and configuration management, infrastructure as code and testing, and integrating security into DevOps (DevSecOps).

Is the CV0-004 hard?+

Cloud+ is an intermediate exam that is broad because it is vendor-neutral — you must understand concepts that apply across providers rather than one platform’s specifics, and its performance-based questions require applying that knowledge.

The difficulty comes from breadth across architecture, security, operations, and DevOps, and from scenario questions that hinge on choosing the right design or fix. Practising cross-provider scenarios is the key.

How many questions are on the CV0-004 exam and how long is it?+

The CV0-004 exam contains a maximum of 90 questions and allows 90 minutes. It mixes multiple-choice with performance-based questions (PBQs) — interactive tasks such as configuring or troubleshooting a cloud scenario.

Our full-length practice mock uses a 90-question, 90-minute session so you can rehearse pacing under realistic time pressure before test day.

What score do you need to pass the CV0-004?+

CompTIA scores CV0-004 on a scale of 100 to 900, and you need 750 to pass — well above a simple 70%, so it leaves little room for weak areas. Because it is scaled, questions are not all worth the same, and there is no penalty for guessing, so answer everything. Our practice mock uses a 75% threshold as a study checkpoint; aim comfortably beyond it before test day.

How much does the CV0-004 exam cost?+

The CV0-004 exam fee is set by CompTIA — historically around $392 USD, but check the official CompTIA page for current pricing and bundles. The certification is valid for three years and can be renewed through continuing education. Everything on this hub is free.

Who should take the CV0-004?+

Cloud+ is aimed at cloud engineers, systems administrators, and operations staff who deploy and manage workloads across cloud providers, and at IT professionals moving into cloud roles.

CompTIA recommends around two to three years of systems administration or networking experience and familiarity with a major cloud provider, though there is no formal prerequisite.

What jobs and salaries can the CV0-004 lead to?+

Cloud+ maps to roles such as cloud engineer, cloud administrator, systems administrator, and operations engineer, where running workloads across providers is the job. Its vendor-neutral scope complements provider-specific certifications.

How much any certification affects pay depends heavily on geography, seniority, and hands-on experience, so treat any single salary figure with caution. Cloud+ is best viewed as validation of vendor-neutral cloud operations skill rather than a guaranteed raise on its own.

How long does it take to study for the CV0-004?+

Candidates with cloud or systems experience often need six to ten weeks; those newer to the cloud should plan longer. The most efficient path is to study each domain while practising in a free tier of a major cloud provider, then drill scenario and performance-based questions.

Review every explanation, including for questions you answered correctly, because CV0-004 distractors are built from plausible but incorrect cloud designs or fixes. Use the per-domain results here to find and shore up your weakest area, then finish with full-length timed mocks.

How should you prepare for the CV0-004?+

Study the six domains above, giving the most time to cloud architecture, deployment, and security, then drill scenario questions domain by domain. Every MockAPI question reveals a full explanation and tells you why each wrong answer is wrong — essential for a vendor-neutral exam whose wrong options are plausible cloud choices.

When you can answer scenarios comfortably, move to full-length timed mocks, ideally alongside hands-on practice in a cloud free tier. Use the glossary to keep the concepts straight, and aim to score consistently above the pass mark before you book.

Can you take the CV0-004 exam online?+

Yes. CompTIA delivers CV0-004 through Pearson VUE, both at test centers and online with remote proctoring (OnVUE). The online exam requires a private, quiet room, a clear workspace, a webcam and microphone, a stable connection, and government-issued photo ID, with a proctor monitoring you and a room scan before you start.

If you do not pass, CompTIA lets you retake immediately for a second attempt, but a 14-day wait applies before a third and any subsequent attempts. Each attempt needs its own registration and fee.

What certification should you take after the CV0-004?+

After Cloud+, common next steps include provider-specific certifications such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud associate exams, or CompTIA’s advanced tracks for security or architecture.

For many, the real next step is operating production cloud environments. Pairing Cloud+ with hands-on provider experience is what turns the certificate into a career.
