350-401 frequently asked questions
What is the 350-401 certification?+
ENCOR is the shared core exam for CCNP Enterprise and a qualifying exam for CCIE Enterprise Infrastructure, making it one of Cisco’s highest-value professional exams.
It is broad and deep: you must configure and troubleshoot real enterprise features, so success rewards hands-on IOS-XE experience rather than memorization.
What topics are on the 350-401 exam?+
The ENCOR exam is organised into six weighted domains. The percentages below are Cisco’s official blueprint weightings, so bias your study toward the heaviest domain — Infrastructure alone is 30% of the exam, covering Layer 2, Layer 3, and IP services (the current v1.2 blueprint no longer includes wireless).
Architecture (15%)
Covers enterprise network design principles (2-tier, 3-tier, fabric, cloud, high availability with FHRP/SSO), the working principles of Cisco Catalyst SD-WAN and SD-Access (control and data planes), and interpreting QoS configurations.
Virtualization (10%)
Covers device virtualization (hypervisor types, virtual machines and switching), data-path virtualization (VRF, GRE and IPsec tunneling), and network virtualization concepts including LISP and VXLAN.
Infrastructure (30%)
The largest domain. Covers Layer 2 (802.1q trunking, EtherChannel, RSTP/MST and enhancements), Layer 3 (EIGRP vs OSPF concepts, OSPFv2/v3, eBGP, policy-based routing), and IP services (NTP/PTP, NAT/PAT, FHRP such as HSRP/VRRP, and multicast including PIM SM, IGMP, SSM, and MSDP). Note: the current 350-401 v1.2 blueprint no longer includes wireless.
Network Assurance (10%)
Covers diagnosing problems with debugs, traceroute, ping, SNMP, and syslog; Flexible NetFlow; SPAN/RSPAN/ERSPAN; IP SLA; Cisco Catalyst Center (formerly DNA Center) monitoring; and NETCONF/RESTCONF.
Security (20%)
Covers device access control (lines, local user authentication, AAA), infrastructure security features (ACLs, CoPP), REST API security, and describing the components of a network security design — threat defense, endpoint security, next-generation firewall, and TrustSec/MACsec. (v1.2 no longer includes 802.1X/MAB, port security, or web authentication here.)
Automation and Artificial Intelligence (15%)
Covers interpreting Python scripts, constructing JSON, YANG data modeling, APIs for Cisco Catalyst Center and SD-WAN Manager, interpreting REST API responses, EEM applets, and comparing agent vs. agentless orchestration tools.
Is the 350-401 hard?+
ENCOR is hard because it is broad and configuration-heavy: you must know routing, switching, security, and automation deeply enough to configure and troubleshoot them under time pressure.
The heavy Infrastructure weighting means routing and switching depth is decisive. The difficulty is genuine hands-on Cisco skill, which is why lab practice matters as much as reading.
How many questions are on the 350-401 exam and how long is it?+
ENCOR is a 120-minute exam with a mix of multiple-choice and other item types; Cisco does not publish an exact question count, and it is a qualifying exam for both CCNP Enterprise and CCIE Enterprise Infrastructure.
Our full-length practice mock uses a 90-question, 120-minute session so you can rehearse pacing across all six domains before test day.
What score do you need to pass the 350-401?+
Cisco does not publish a fixed passing score for ENCOR; scaled cut scores are not disclosed and vary by exam form, so the 75% threshold on our practice mock is our own study checkpoint rather than an official cutline. Because there is no guessing penalty, answer every question.
How much does the 350-401 exam cost?+
The ENCOR exam fee is set by Cisco (around US$400) — check the Cisco site for current pricing. The certification is valid for three years. Everything on this hub is free.
Who should take the 350-401?+
ENCOR is aimed at network engineers, network administrators, and infrastructure engineers pursuing CCNP or CCIE Enterprise.
Cisco recommends three to five years of enterprise networking experience, and CCNA-level knowledge, before attempting it.
What jobs and salaries can the 350-401 lead to?+
ENCOR maps to roles such as network engineer, senior network administrator, and network architect.
How much any certification affects pay depends heavily on geography, seniority, and experience, so treat any single salary figure with caution. ENCOR is best viewed as proof of professional-level enterprise networking skill.
How long does it take to study for the 350-401?+
Candidates with CCNA-level experience often need two to four months, with most of that time spent configuring and troubleshooting on real or emulated Cisco gear.
Review every explanation, including for questions you answered correctly, because ENCOR distractors are built from plausible but incorrect Cisco configurations. Use the per-domain results here to find your weakest area, then finish with full-length timed mocks.
How should you prepare for the 350-401?+
Study the six domains above, giving the heaviest weight to Infrastructure, then drill scenario questions domain by domain while practicing on real or emulated Cisco devices. Every MockAPI question reveals a full explanation and tells you why each wrong answer is wrong.
When you can configure and troubleshoot comfortably, move to full-length timed mocks. Use the glossary to keep technologies like SD-Access, VXLAN, OSPF, and RESTCONF straight, and aim to score consistently above the checkpoint before you book.
Can you take the 350-401 exam online?+
Yes. Cisco delivers 350-401 ENCOR through Pearson VUE, so you can test at a physical Pearson VUE centre or online with OnVUE remote proctoring. The online exam requires a private, quiet room, a clear workspace, a webcam and microphone, a stable connection, and government-issued photo ID, with a proctor monitoring you and a room scan before you start.
If you do not pass, Cisco enforces a waiting period of five calendar days before you can retake the same exam.
What certification should you take after the 350-401?+
After ENCOR, you complete CCNP Enterprise with a concentration exam (such as ENARSI), or pursue the CCIE Enterprise Infrastructure lab.
For many, the real next step is designing and running enterprise networks at scale. Pairing ENCOR with hands-on operations is what turns the certificate into a career.
